Acolyte Fantasy 32mm
This year has seen Acolyte Miniatures begin to develop a variety of miniature figures for what will be an ongoing series of 32mm fantasy figures for our Acolyte Fantasy range.
We are huge fans of fantasy gaming, having grown up playing Dungeons & Dragons and it was inevitable that we would produce fantasy miniatures at some point.
Once The Defeated had been released we were able to look at what we wanted to produce next and we unanimously agreed to design some fantasy characters. We also wanted to continue designing really detailed miniatures that capture the essence of the characters. This level of quality is something we are becoming known for and we couldn't see any reason not to do that for these 32mm figures.
We want to design characters from all classes and races so it was a difficult decision where to start with the range. We knew we wanted to design traditional characters but examine their personality traits a little more.
A barbarian was an obvious choice and the first character we set to work on. We just wanted to do a powerful barbarian but not have the OTT muscles. We called him Bonecrusher and designed a giant warhammer, envisaging him easily crushing his opponents with it. This is a pretty no nonsense character but we think he has a great look to him.
The rogue was a lot of fun to design. When we think of rogues we see them as devious, cunning characters. With this character we wanted to design a female but approaching her differently. So we designed her casually smoking a pipe but with the stance suggesting she isn't just an innocent bystander.
This rogue clearly has someone or something in her sights. A person, a building? Is she working alone or in a gang. This simple pose offers lots of options, which we think is the key to a good character.
The Elf Ranger is another classic fantasy style character. We designed him to be clearly hunting but whether it is a creature or a person is for you to decide. Is he part of a larger hunting party or a scout? We have plans for a lot of elves so things will become clearer in due course.
We added a few details like the antler bow and the leaf pattern designs on his armour and these should make for great features to paint. It is going to be fun to reveal the full elf collection over time.
The Wizard is the last figure in this first wave of fantasy miniatures and we wanted to do something a little different with him. We didn't want to go down the route of the stereotypical wizard, so we gave him a more unique look. Older yes, but clearly a master of his arts. He has his all important spell books with him and we posed him in a confident stance, suggesting he is a veteran of many an encounter and not afraid to face anything.
That is the initial wave of figures that will form the Acolyte Fantasy range. We are very excited about what we are creating and we hope you feel the same way. There are many more figures being planned. Some are already sculpted and others are just ideas. They will all be revealed here as soon as they are ready.
